It is critical that motor carriers, brokers, and other registered entities log in to the FMCSA Portal by May 14, 2026, to ensure their Portal accounts are up to date. Failure to take these steps may result in existing registrants being unable to claim their USDOT Number in Motus once the system goes live. Please read an example of the letter that will be mailed out.
- Log in to their FMCSA Portal account to ensure it is active.

Truck Parking Availability Information System (TPAIS)
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is launching a new information system that will help truck drivers locate safe parking when traveling on Montana’s Interstate 90 (I-90) corridor. The Truck Parking Availability Information System (TPAIS) will provide real-time information about available parking spaces ahead.
Information will display on electronic road signs and MDT’s 511 system for seven rest areas, including Columbus east and westbound, Greycliff east and westbound, Headwaters, and Homestake east and westbound. In addition, information for drivers and dispatchers will be available through in-cab displays and through the DriveWyze mobile apps.
Truck drivers must start searching for a space long before they need it to ensure they comply with Hours-of-Service regulations. They often spend more than an hour looking for a space to stop. The lack of parking when needed can lead to truck drivers stopping to rest on shoulders, ramps, or other unsafe places.
This technology is an important tool to enhance safety, efficiency, and mobility, as well as reduce emissions.
MDT received just over $1 million High Priority Information Technology Deployment (HP-ITD) grant for the program provided by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) federal grant program.
The public is encouraged to contact MDT Motor Carrier Services (MCS) at 406-444-6130 or mdtmcstpaisXYZmtABCgov with questions or comments.
MDT is a workforce of more than 2,000 people across Montana planning, building, operating, and maintaining a safe and resilient transportation system so Montanans and visitors can arrive at their destinations safely. For more information about who we are and what we do, visit mdt.mt.gov.
