Research Programs Manager

This position serves as the Departments Research Programs Manager. The position is responsible for developing, managing, and administering the operations and activities of the Research Program, the Experimental Projects Program and the Technology Transfer Program, as well as the Departments library and related services. The Research Programs services are provided to the entire Department. The position directs the development and implementation of methods, policies and technologies to address statewide transportation issues within state and federal requirements and regulations. Seasonal Dispatcher

The Seasonal Dispatcher position provides the communication services required to provide public safety in transportation. This position works in the Transportation Management Center (TMC) and provides Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Chiefs, Maintenance Superintendents, other MDT staff, Federal agencies, National Weather Service, Disaster and Emergency Services, and law enforcement communications services. Hours may vary between 15-30 hours per week and shifts may be anywhere from 4-12 hours long, depending on the needs of the TMC. The season typically begins in late October/early November and ends in March, depending on weather. Duties include road reporting, incident dispatching, emergency communication, variable message sign (VMS) operation, Roadway Management System (RMS) operations and system maintenance. Dispatchers speak with MDT staff, MHP and other law enforcement agencies, the traveling public, tribal personnel, and other emergency services. At times this includes speaking with highly emotionally charged individuals. There are times of high stress levels, and the Dispatcher must be able to remain calm under emotional emergency conditions. The Transportation Management Center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. Employees should expect to work varying shifts throughout the year including weekends and holidays. The Motor Fuels Section Supervisor is responsible for administering the motor fuels tax laws for the State of Montana.
