Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with engineering firm Sanbell, is in the design phase of a safety improvement project that will enhance safety features and accessibility at the intersection of Kagy Boulevard and Sourdough Road in Bozeman.
The purpose of this project is to address intersection-related crashes and meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Planned improvements include:
- Install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Kagy Boulevard and Sourdough Road
- Install new LED streetlights at the intersection
- Replace the existing curb and gutter
- Complete stormwater drainage improvements
- Improve existing sidewalks and ramps

The project is currently in the early design phase. As part of this phase, a project open house will be scheduled for the community to learn more, share their feedback, and ask questions directly to the project team.

Project Funding
The Kagy Boulevard and Sourdough Road Intersection Improvements project is being funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The primary focus of the program involves identifying locations where higher severity crashes have occurred and prioritizing work that reduces these crashes.
