The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Jeffery Contracting LLC have begun work to rehabilitate approximately 4 miles of Interstate 15 (I-15) north of the Sieben Interchange (Exit 216). This project will significantly rehabilitate both the north and southbound lanes of I-15 over two construction seasons. In 2026, crews will be rehabilitating the northbound lanes of the project area.

Work on this project began this week (April 13), with crews beginning to build crossovers so that north and southbound traffic can travel on the southbound side of the interstate during construction this year. During this first week crews have been preparing the southbound side of the interstate for crossover traffic by paving in rumble strips, adding temporary guardrail, and removing existing road striping.

Next week, motorists will encounter lane closures on both north and southbound I-15 as crews continue preparing for crossover traffic by moving additional barrier rail, setting up the crossover locations, and painting temporary roadway markings.

Rehabilitation of the northbound lanes of I-15 is anticipated to take the entire 2026 construction season to complete, with crews planning to rehabilitate the southbound lanes in 2027.

What to expect during construction:

  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Both north and southbound traffic will travel on the same side of I-15.
  • Crossover traffic patterns will be in place throughout construction.
  • Speed limits will be reduced.
  • A 12-foot width restriction will be in place (visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information).
