Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) continues roadwork on the US 93 West of Whitefish project. This road reconstruction project includes a section of U.S. Highway 93 (US 93) in Whitefish, starting near the intersection of US 93 and Mountainside Drive and continuing west for approximately 3 miles, ending just past Livermore Flats. Crews will continue work through the fall of 2026, pause for the winter, and resume final activities in spring 2027.

Planned safety enhancements for the US 93 West of Whitefish project include a new driving surface, designated turn lanes, guardrail, wider shoulders, new signage, and a separated shared-use path with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant handrails and detectable warning devices.
The first phase of this project included tree clearing, which was necessary under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 for both utility relocation and highway reconstruction. LTL Enterprises finished the clearing required for utility relocations, and in 2025, clearing activities were completed before highway construction began.
Road construction is ongoing and will enhance safety features on the roadway, as well as improve nonmotorized accessibility in Whitefish. The goal of this project is to extend the service life of this section of US 93 so it continues to serve the community for years to come.
