Project Overview

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River are rehabilitating approximately 2 miles of US 93 north of Reserve Drive in Kalispell. The project area begins at the intersection of US 93 and Reserve Drive and extends north 2 miles.

Planned improvements include:

  • Resurfaced roadway.
  • Chip seal, cover, and fog seal.
  • New pavement markings.
  • New signage.
  • Upgraded guardrail.
  • Shoulder rumble strips.
  • Updated barrier ends on Stillwater River bridge.

Why is the project needed?

This is a preventative maintenance project that will preserve the existing pavement and extend the service life of the existing asphalt surfacing. Additionally, this project will enhance safety and provide a smoother driving surface for motorists.

Communication with the public is important to MDT and the success of the project. The community will be notified about public involvement opportunities, and construction and traffic activities, at key project milestones throughout the construction process. MDT will notify the public through the project website, local media, mailings, social media, and email and text notifications.
