Work for 2021 is now completed. Due to late season weather conditions and the addition of two needed median replacements, the project will resume in the spring/summer of 2022. Additional improvements in 2022 will include finalizing striping, smaller “punch list” items, and replacement of the medians at the intersection at Airport Road and the median immediately north of Hilltop Road. Regular updates to the website will resume with the work at that time.

Final work will vary throughout the project area as punch list items continue to be reviewed/finalized. Travelers should anticipate that any remaining traffic control will be short-term in nature and will not significantly impact traffic flow. Median demolition will begin at the Aaronson turn lane and will progress south to 6th Avenue North. Temporary signals will be active at intersections at both 4th and 6th. Work will result in shoulder closures, single-lane closures for short distances, and short detours for pedestrians from 1st Avenue N. to Milton, at Aaronson moving south, and at the intersections of 4th and 6th. In addition to work MDT is doing on Main Street, there will be additional soil and sub-surface work for a future project being done in this area on Tuesday (April 27th) and Wednesday (April 28th) next week. On Tuesday, April 27th, there will be a single-lane closure in the eastbound lane of 1st Avenue North from approximately the intersection of N. 10th Street for 1 block east just past the Main Street intersection. On Wednesday, April 28th, there will be a single-lane closure in the southbound outer lane of Main Street from the intersection of 4th Avenue North through the 1st Avenue North Intersection, terminating at N. 10th Street. When possible, the traveling public should consider alternate routes for east to west travel for Tuesday and Wednesday.
