What is happening on the Main Street Billings Project?
The Main Street Billings Project includes rehabilitation of approximately three miles of Main Street (US Hwy 312) in Billings. Project boundaries are from the intersection at 1st Avenue North on the southeast end to the intersection at US 287/Bench Boulevard on the northeast end.
The project includes a mill and overlay of the asphalt roadway, upgrading existing guardrail, replacement of signage and pavement markings, replacement of existing raised medians, upgrading of existing storm drain grates, construction of ADA compliant sidewalk corners, installation of accessible pedestrian signal push buttons, reflective tape on traffic signal heads and upgrading of traffic signal connectivity to a fiber optic system.
What is the project’s purpose and goal?
The purpose of the Main Street Billings Project is to maintain and improve the condition of the road, extending the service life and quality of Main Street through the Billings heights. The project will also improve overall safety by increasing ADA accessibility to the sidewalks and upgrading the existing signal systems in the project area.
What is the schedule for the project?
The Main Street Billings Project is scheduled for one construction season, beginning in the spring of 2021 and concluding in the fall/early winter of 2021.
Will this affect traffic?
Access to all intersecting streets, alleys, public, and private drives will remain open during construction. There will be temporary traffic control measures in place during intersection electrical work.
Traffic flow will be maintained with at least two lanes open for both directions of traffic during daytime/peak hours and at least one lane open in both directions during evening hours (8pm – 6am). When possible, paving work will be done during evening hours (8pm – 6am) to avoid more significant traffic impacts during peak daytime travel hours.
