Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) partnered with Riverside Contracting, Inc., to complete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades in Lewistown. The project includes ADA-compliant sidewalks, ramps, approaches, and new signage along 1st Avenue North and 1st Avenue South from Broadway Street to Upper Spring Creek Road.
Construction began in fall of 2024 and completion is expected in fall 2025. To enhance safety and accessibility for all users, the ADA improvements include 17 ADA corner ramps, 29 sign replacements, 26 reconstructed approaches, and more than 11,000 square feet of new sidewalks.
November 3, 2025 Construction Update
Construction on the Lewistown ADA Upgrades project is nearing completion with final construction activities expected to be completed in the coming weeks, depending on weather and other unforeseen factors.
Completed work:
- All concrete work has been completed, including reconstructed approaches, corner ramps, and new sidewalks.
- All signage has been replaced.
Upcoming work:
- Roadway striping at the intersection of 1st Avenue and East Broadway Street.
- Crews will complete pavement marking updates and striping activities.

Billings District ADA Upgrades
The Lewistown ADA project is one section of the Billings District ADA Upgrades project, which also includes improvements in Bridger and Billings. As a part of MDT’s statewide effort to improve pedestrian facilities across Montana, this project is bringing sidewalks in each of these communities into compliance with current ADA standards, allowing greater accessibility for all.
