Kalispell Couplet

Several pedestrian crosswalks near the Flathead County Courthouse have been updated to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) have been installed at six crossings to alert drivers when pedestrians are waiting to cross the street. These are push-activated lights that flash when someone is looking to cross the street, gaining the attention of drivers that they should slow down and stop for those crossing.

Construction was completed in two phases. The first phase, which included three of the six crossings, was completed in June 2023 and the second phase, which included the remaining three crossings, was completed in September 2023.

West Glacier Entrance

Updates have been made to pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Going to the Sun Road with River Bend Drive and Old River Bridge Road.

Two rectangular rapid flashing beacons were replaced with a crossing signal. These updates increased access and enhance safety for pedestrians.

Construction was expected to begin the first week of May. Work occurred on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and was anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete. Two-way traffic was maintained for most of the work. Minor traffic delays and brief single-lane closures were necessary. Drivers and pedestrians were encouraged to be mindful of sidewalk and traffic changes and proceed carefully through the work zone.

Whitefish Extension

Ramps have been upgraded at the northeast and southeast corners of 6th Street and US Highway 93 (US 93) and the southeast corner of 3rd Street and US 93. All work on this project was completed in 2022.
