Proposal To Replace Damaged Fencing On US 212 & MT 39

Lame Deer, Mont. - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal
to replace segments of fence along US 212 east of Lame Deer and MT 39
north of Lame Deer that were damaged by the wildfires in early August
of 2021.

The project begins on US 212 1.5 miles east of Lame Deer
and extends east for approximately 12 miles ending approximately 7
miles west of Ashland. On MT 39, the project begins about 10 miles
north of Lame Deer and extends north for almost 10 miles ending a few
miles south of Colstrip. The purpose of this project is to protect
the traveling public from livestock entering the right of way and
onto the highway, reducing the potential of an animal/vehicle
collision occurring with livestock.

The project is tentatively
scheduled for construction beginning as early as this November 2021,
depending on completion of all project development activities,
successful award of a contract and the contractors ability to secure
the materials on short notice. The intent is to have the project
completed by spring of 2022. No new Right-of-Way or utility
relocations will be needed.

An important part of properly planning
for future projects is partnering with the community. The Montana
Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and
comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at
http://www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml or in writing to Montana
Department of Transportation, Glendive office at PO Box 890,
Glendive, MT 59330-0890. Please note that comments are for project
UPN 10090000.

The public is encouraged to contact Glendive District
Administrator Shane Mintz at (406) 345-8212 or Project Design
Engineer Steve Heidner at (406) 345-8247.
