Proposed Bridge Replacements On Highway 83 In Swan Lake

Swan Lake, Montana - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal
to replace the bridges over Groom Creek, Hall Creek and Six Mile
Creek on Highway 83, in Swan Lake in Lake County. Groom Creek and
Hall Creek bridges are in the community of Swan Lake, and Six Mile
Creek bridge is located 7 miles northwest of the community of Swan
Lake.

Proposed work includes removal of the existing bridges,
construction of new reinforced concrete culverts, and rebuilding the
roadway approaches adjacent to the new culverts for smoother
transitions between the roadway and the culvert. In addition,
pavement markings, roadway signs, and guardrail will be upgraded. The
purpose of the project is to replace the deteriorating timber bridges
which have reached the end of their service life.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2023 depending on completion of design and
availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities
will be required but will be minimized as much as possible. MDT staff
will contact all affected landowners prior to construction regarding
property acquisition and temporary construction permits.

An
important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering
with the community. The Montana Department of Transportation welcomes
the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project.
