Mill & Fill Project Planned For Highway 12, Meagher County
CHECKERBOARD, MONTANA (May 22, 2020) — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to
comment on a proposal to mill and overlay about 6.4 miles of Highway
12, northwest of Checkerboard. The project begins at reference post
55.9 approximately two miles east of Lake Sutherlin, and extends
easterly for approximately 7.3 miles ending just east of the town of
Proposed work includes milling, paving, chip sealing,
new pavement markings, sign upgrades, and guardrail upgrades. The
purpose of the project is to preserve and increase the life of the
pavement, as well as provide increased traction and spot safety
The construction date will be scheduled upon
completion of all project development activities and available
funding. No new Right of Way or utility relocations are anticipated.
An important part of properly planning for future projects is
partnering with the community. Montana Department of Transportation
welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed
