MDT Announces Changes To The Intersection Of Sanders Street

MDT Announces Changes to the Intersection of Sanders Street and 11th

HELENA MONTANA (May 11, 2020) — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to
comment on a proposal to begin removing the signal at the
intersection of Sanders Street and 11th Avenue.

The purpose of the
project is to improve traffic flow of the 11th Avenue corridor. The
proposed work will be completed in three phases.

Phase one will
switch the traffic signal operations to a flashing mode. Traffic
traveling north on Sanders Street will see a flashing red signal to
indicate a regulated stop. Traffic on 11th Avenue will see flashing
yellow to indicate caution to the possibility of entering traffic.
Phase one is currently scheduled to begin in June of 2020 and
continue for 90 days.

Phase two will begin following the 90-day
comment period of Phase one. During phase two the signal heads will
be covered, and a stop sign will be placed to control traffic on
Sanders Street.

Phase three will conclude with the removal of all
hardware associated with the traffic signal.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2021 completion. Relocation of utilities
will be required. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners
prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact
landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and
temporary construction permits.
