Rouse Ave.- Main To Oak Construction Starting March 30

BOZEMAN, Montana (March 23, 2020) Roadway construction on the Rouse
Ave- Main to Oak project is about to begin. Starting the week of
March 30, MDT will be working on Rouse Avenue from Main Street to Oak
Street Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

During the weeks
of April 6 and April 13, Rouse Avenue between Oak Street and Tamarack
Street will be fully closed. The detour during this time will be via
Griffin Drive, Seventh Avenue, and Main Street or Peach Street. More
information on the detour can be found on the project website at
https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/rouseoakmain/

MDT began planning
and advertising for an open house in March. However, in lieu of
COVID- 19 and recommendations from the CDC limiting meetings of 50
people or more, the department has canceled plans for a public event
and invites residents to reach out directly with questions or
concerns.

"We truly apologize for any confusion or inconvenience
that occurs as a result of canceling the open house," said Geno Liva,
District Construction Engineer for MDT. "Please know that this
decision that was not made lightly and was made in of consideration
of the most vulnerable members of our community."

The Rouse Ave-
Main to Oak project involves widening 0.9 miles of Rouse Avenue, one
of downtown Bozeman's most traveled thoroughfares. Due to Bozeman's
rapid growth, more vehicles are traveling on this narrow roadway than
ever before.

"We will work diligently in hopes of finishing this
work in December, but we also want to remind residents that sometimes
weather and other factors get in the way," Liva explained. "We will
be in communication via the weekly updates and with the media should
any changes to the schedule occur."

Construction will focus on
expanding Rouse Avenue to include a center turn lane, bike lanes, and
sidewalks throughout the project. Eight intersections will be
improved with new ADA ramps, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and
crosswalks. East Birch Street, East Tamarack Street, East Peach
Street and East Mendenhall Street will have new traffic signals
installed. Crews will also finish installing a box culvert on Rouse
Avenue where Bozeman Creek flows underneath the road and will perform
additional utility upgrades.

MDT is also planning a major closure of
Rouse Avenue between Main Street and Lamme Street from mid-June to
mid-August. The detour for this work is Main Street to Seventh Avenue
to Oak Street.
