Project For Secondary 478 North Of Big Timber



Proposed Resurfacing Project for Secondary 478 north of Big Timber,
MT 



BILLINGS, MONTANA (March 19, 2020)  The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite	the public to
comment on a proposal to chip seal approximately  5.25 miles, and
place new gravel on about 16.75 miles of Secondary 478, northeast of
Big Timber. The project begins at the intersection of US-191 and
Secondary 478 north of Big Timber and extends to the east along Howie
Road for 2 miles. The project extends northeast along Rapelje Road
for another 20 miles.



Proposed work includes a chip seal from the
junction to the beginning of the gravel road (RP 5.25), new gravel
from RP 5.25 to RP 22.0, new asphalt surfacing on the Big Timber
Creek and Otter Creek Bridges, replacement of some existing
guardrail, and signage. The purpose of the project is to preserve and
extend the life of the existing roadway surfacing and to improve the
safety of the roadway for the traveling public.



The project is
currently outside the tentative five-year construction plan, but it
is anticipated the project will be available to be let to contract by
2021 if funding becomes available.

planning for future projects is partnering with the community. The

ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted
