Project To Mitigate Flooding On Portion Of Hay Coulee

MDT Proposes project to mitigate flooding on portion of Hay Coulee
Road in Liberty County

CHESTER, MONTANA (November 5, 2019) - The
Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and
invite the public to comment on a proposal to rebuild about 0.4
miles of Hay Coulee Road also known as 4700 Road South about 15 miles
southeast of Chester in Liberty County. The project begins at the
west edge of the coulee at approximate reference post 3.8 and extends
east for 0.4 miles ending near the east edge of the coulee at
approximate reference post 4.2.

Proposed work includes adding
drainage culverts and armoring of the roadway and roadside slopes.
The purpose of the project is to improve drainage and to armor the
roadway to prevent future damage from flooding. This section of
roadway has washed out multiple times and most recently in the spring
of 2018.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in
2020, depending on completion of all project development activities
and availability of funding. The project is funded with Federal
Highway Administration funds and State matching funds. Right-of-way
acquisition is anticipated. No utility impacts are anticipated.

An
important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering
with the community. Montana Department of Transportation welcomes the
public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project.
