of Transportation Proposes Resurfacing Project for U.S. Highway 2
Between Poplar and Brockton
POPLAR — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek
comments on a proposal to resurface about 13 miles of U.S. Highway 2
(US-2) west of Brockton in Roosevelt County.
The project begins at
the east edge of Poplar at reference post 613.26 and extends east for
12.9 miles, ending near the east edge of Brockton at reference post
Proposed work includes milling the existing surface,
applying a new overlay, and finishing with a seal and cover (chip
seal), culvert replacement, upgraded pavement markings, rumble
strips, signage and guardrail. The existing asphalt sidewalk on the
north side of US-2 through Brockton will also be replaced with a new
concrete sidewalk and Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant ramps
at the intersections.
The purpose of the project is to extend the
life of the pavement and to reduce maintenance costs. No new
right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

construction as soon as possible, generally within two to three
years. A target construction date will be determined upon completion
of all project development activities and availability of funding.
