Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Roadway Widening and Signal Improvements
in Belgrade

BELGRADE — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek
comments on a proposal to widen about 0.5 miles of Jackrabbit Lane in

The project begins at Madison Avenue and extends north
for 0.5 miles, ending at Main Street. In addition, traffic signals
will be upgraded at the following six intersections in Belgrade: 1)
Amsterdam Road and Thorpe Road, 2) Amsterdam Road and Interstate 90
eastbound off-ramp, 3) Amsterdam Road and Jackrabbit Lane, 4)
Jackrabbit Lane and Interstate 90 westbound off-ramp, 5) Jackrabbit
Lane and Madison Avenue, and 6) Jackrabbit Lane and Main Street.

Proposed work includes widening Jackrabbit Lane to five lanes
including four travel lanes, a center turn lane, curb and gutter, and
sidewalk. Work at the signalized intersections includes the addition
of flashing yellow arrows, reflective signal backplates, and
pedestrian push buttons compliant with the Americans with
Disabilities Act.

The purpose of the project is to increase roadway
capacity to address current and future traffic demand, in addition to
upgrading traffic signals to current standards.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2023, depending on completion of design and
availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities
will be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially affected
landowners prior to performing survey work on their land. Staff will
again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property
acquisition and temporary construction permits.
