• Ongoing work includes roadside seeding, rockfall mitigation, guardrail and barrier installation, temporary striping, and project cleanup. Project work will continue for about three weeks, weather permitting, and crews will return in 2024 to continue construction work.

  • While paving, some sections of the project will require reducing travel lanes to single-lane, two-way traffic. Pilot cars will be in use and delays are expected during paving.
• NOTE: Magnesium chloride will be placed on the roadway surface as needed for paving. Drive slowly.

• Day shift crews are constructing the following:
  • Installation of lakeside retaining wall blocks continues.
  • Installation of a rock fence at the north end of the lake continues. The rock fence will be used to redirect and guide rockfall on the east side of the roadway.
  • Pavement milling begins at Woodworth Road and extends north for approximately half a mile, ending just south of Paws Up boathouse/Sour Dough Island.
  • Installation of soil nail walls on the east side of the roadway begins. Soil nail walls are an in-place soil reinforcement technique. The slope is reinforced by soil nails made of steel bars or other material such as a self-drilling anchor system. A steel mesh is laid on the surface of the slope and then a concrete surface layer is sprayed to finish the wall.
• Night shift crews continue backfilling the retaining walls and excavating the roadway.
• Temporary traffic lights are in use throughout the construction zone, and intermittently at the north end of the lake.

• Kiewit crews are working 24-hours Monday, August 7, through Thursday, August 10, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, August 11, and Saturday, August 12.
• On Sunday, July 30, the Starlink connection that is used for communications and controlling the traffic lights went offline. It took about an hour to repair and a bit longer to get traffic moved through the queue. A Starlink national expert will be onsite Monday, August 7, to improve the system. We understand your concerns and apologize for the inconvenience.
• Construction continues including:
  • Day shift crews are installing lakeside retaining wall blocks and a rock fence at the north end of the lake. The rock fence will be used to redirect and guide rockfall on the east side of the roadway.
  • Night shift crews are backfilling the retaining walls and excavating the roadway.
• Temporary traffic lights are in use throughout the construction zone, and intermittently at the north end of the lake.

• Day shift crews are primarily installing lakeside retaining wall blocks in about 1.5 miles of the southern construction corridor. This shorter corridor is decreasing traffic wait times.
• Night shift crews are backfilling about 2.5 miles of the project’s south end. Backfilling includes operating heavy equipment and trucks. Completing this work at night helps decrease traffic impacts during the day.
• Minor construction is occurring on the north end of the lake, but it does not affect traffic.
• Temporary traffic lights are in use. Wait times may vary based on traffic volume.
