Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with the City of Missoula, has begun design work on a new portion of the Russell Street corridor. The areas under review are located on Russell Street between Dakota Street and Mount Avenue, and West Broadway Street between Toole Avenue and Mullan Road. This project will complete the final design of the preferred alternative that was selected in the Environmental Impact Statement. Details within the proposed alternative, including boulevards, added bike lanes, crosswalks and sidewalks, will be solidified.
MDT consultants will notify adjacent businesses and landowners this winter when survey activities begin.
Missoulians recognize that congestion continues to be a challenge on local roadways. In collaboration with its partners and consultants, MDT will continue work on Russell and Broadway to further mitigate travel delay and enhance roadway safety features.
Construction in this corridor will not occur for at least three to five years as funding is acquired and a design is finalized.
Regular updates will be communicated as this portion of the project progresses. If you have questions, please get in touch with me at
