Construction - Zone 1 Information
Updates to curb ramps on Fifth and Sixth Streets are fully funded by a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program. Landowners adjacent to these project locations are not liable for any direct costs associated with the improvements.
During the construction, travelers on Fifth and Sixth Streets between Ronald and Helen Avenues may experience delays and traffic congestion. Vehicle traffic may be narrowed to one lane in some sections. During active work, to ensure the resident cars are not damaged, parking will not be permitted within 50 feet of street corners; motorists are encouraged to park midblock to avoid being towed.
Work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday during each week. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to be mindful of other users, and should obey all posted work zone signage. Pedestrians are encouraged to use alternative routes during construction, such as neighboring streets. Work on Fifth and Sixth Streets will last 6 weeks, weather permitting.
Starting April 2, work will be performed on sidewalk corners on intersections along Fifth Street starting at Helen Avenue. After all intersections from Helen to Ronald have been updated, the work zone will move to Sixth Avenue and follow the same pattern of updates from Helen to Ronald Avenues. Crews will be excavating street corners and restructuring sidewalk corners to create improved sidewalk approaches.
