March 29, 2024

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Wickens Construction Inc. will resume operations on the Malta–South project next week, weather permitting.

Crews will resume work to realign and reconstruct US Highway 191 (US 191), flattening steep roadway grades and sharp curves and enhancing safety features. In addition, the project will install snow ditches to mitigate drifting snow issues and new pedestrian facilities at 9th Street West. MDT anticipates that the project will be complete by this fall.

This year, work will begin with pavement grinding and pipe installation on US 191 adjacent to Marian Hills Golf Course, and continuing realignment activities working south.

November 13, 2023

This week, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Wickens Construction will pause operations on the Malta South project for the winter. Traffic control has been removed. Construction updates will continue when crews return in the spring.

This past season, crews completed work on the Alkali Creek Bridge and the irrigation ditch bridge on the edge of town. In addition, alignment work and culvert installation began on US Highway 191 (US 191).

Crews will return in the spring of 2024 to rehabilitate the entire road surface on US 191, complete alignment work, and install a culvert, snow ditches to mitigate drifting snow issues, and new pedestrian facilities at 9th Street West.

We thank the traveling public for their patience this season.

This week, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Wickens Construction will be replacing culverts and installing a cattle guard along the shoulder of US Highway 191 (US 191), approximately five miles outside of Malta.

Work will take place Monday and Tuesday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather and other factors permitting.

During work hours, traffic control will be in place in areas where crews are working. Travelers should expect reduced speeds when traveling through the project area.

October 30, 2023

Due to weather, the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Wickens Construction will pause work this week.

No traffic control will be in place.

Crews are expected to return at the beginning of November, weather and other factors permitting.
