Project Overview
The Montana Department of Transportation is improving approximately 7 ½ miles of I 15 near Wolf Creek. The project area begins 5 miles south of Wolf Creek and extends north to the Augusta Interchange.
The project will rehabilitate the roadway, update existing guardrail and concrete barriers to modern standards, and will upgrade storm drainage in the town of Wolf Creek.
Planned improvements include:
- Removing and replacing approximately 2 feet of degraded roadway material on I 15 and resurfacing adjacent ramps, crossroads, and pullouts.
- Upgrading concrete barrier rails, metal guardrail and signage.
- Adding concrete barrier delineation (high visibility reflective strips) on inside curves.
- Replacing right-of-way fencing and cattle guards as needed.
- Adding new pavement markings.
- Lining and repairing I 15 culverts.
- Improved erosion control features.
- Storm drain upgrades in the town of Wolf Creek.
- Updating curb ramps on Walsh Street between Main Street and Recreation Road.
Why is the project needed?
MDT identified this stretch of interstate as being worn down and in need of repairs. The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the existing surface to extend the life of the roadway, provide a smooth driving surface, and provide better signage and markings denoting the roadway. The project will also provide upgraded roadside barriers and reduce issues that require regular maintenance within the corridor. The upgraded signage and roadway markers were included as part of this project to improve and enhance safety along this corridor.
