The majority of work is complete. Final pavement markings will be applied in August.

Truck traffic in Gallatin Canyon is open to through truck traffic. However, MDT advises through trucks to consider using I-15.

Construction and maintenance work on other projects will continue as needed. Please check MDT’s Road Construction and Road Condition Reports before traveling.

Highway - 191 Gallatin Canyon Public Outreach

Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has regularly sought community input regarding this project.

A Community Meeting was held on April 13, 2009 regarding requests that MDT install a guardrail along the west shoulder of US 191 between the Big Sky Spur and the Ophir School. The intention of the guardrail is to provide separation of the highway and a bicycle/pedestrian path.

Community Meetings were conducted in June, 2008 to make residents aware of the specific locations where work will take place, the phased project schedule, and how to obtain updated information about traffic and road conditions while construction is in progress. Community liaison and support will be available throughout construction.

Hearings conducted in 2006 in conjunction with the development of the Environmental. Assessment included an official public comment process regarding these projects.
