4th of July - there will be no construction activity July 3-5. Construction will resume on Monday July 6th.
Spanish Creek - expect reduced speeds, lane closures and up to 15-minute delays.

Swan Creek - daytime work activity. Expect reduced speeds, lane closures and up to 15 minute delays.

Big Sky Spur Road - embankment/bridge work during the day; nighttime pavement work. Expect reduced speeds, lane closures and up to 15 minute delays.

Traffic is detoured at Swan Creek with 35 mile-per-hour speed limits strictly enforced due to reduced visibility. detour map

Truck traffic in Gallatin Canyon is limited to local deliveries only. Through loads must use Hwy 287.

Local delivery loads over 10.5 ft wide require permits and flaggers at the West Fork Bridge

Wide loads, permitted to make local deliveries, should be moved through the construction area between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Gallatin River - Gallatin Canyon
Highway - 191 Gallatin Canyon Safety Improvements

Montana Department of Transportation is making improvements to Highway 191 through Gallatin Canyon in order to enhance public safety. The projects include adding turn lanes for Highway 64 going to Big Sky, slope flattening, widening of shoulders, improving clear zones, improving site distance, installing new and upgraded guardrails, and replacing two bridges. Construction will continue into 2009.

Project Cost

$12 million with funding support by the Federal Highway Administration
