This is a report of road construction on Montana's interstates and major highways. This report includes information available at the time of preparation.

TRAFFIC FINES DOUBLE in highway work zones. The law also set fines and jail sentences for reckless endangerment of highway workers.

MINOR DELAYS (up to ten minutes) can be expected through these projects with anything over ten minutes being noted in the description. Watch for equipment, flaggers, and workers along the road. Expect reduced speed limits.

I-15 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Monida Interchange proceeding north. Miscellaneous work in progress. Inactive until next spring.

I-15 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Divide- North and South. Rumble strip work in progress. There is a width restriction of 16 feet. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic. Inactive until chip seal.

I-15 Feely Interchange- North & South. Paving work in progress. There is a width restriction of 16 feet. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic. Guardrail, Milling, striping and sweeping.

I-15 Concurrent with I-90 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Located within the Montana Pole and Treating Plant Superfund Site-Butte. Guardrail work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures. Inactive until further notice.

I-15 Helena - Custer Interchange and Helena Valley Canal Bridge. Bridge work in progress. There is a width restriction of 14 feet. Custer Avenue Bridge is open. Lane crossovers and two-way traffic continue to be active on I-15. Travelers should expect a width restriction of 14 feet and reduced speeds. Oversized loads can be accommodated on I-15 by calling Steve (406-207-0855) 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Jerry (406-207-0858) overnight to coordinate movement through the project. I-15 I-15 Augusta Interchange to Craig. Pulverizing work in progress. There is a width restriction of 14 feet. Two- lane traffic will be in the northbound lane throughout this phase of the project. Wide loads over 14 feet will be moved through the project between 7 AM and 9AM Monday through Thursday. No other passage through the project for wide loads over 14 feet will be allowed. I-15 Immediately Adjacent to and Northeast of the City of Conrad. Reconstruction work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph. The contractor is engaged in gravel and building operations and boring under the Interstate and railroad. Motorists should be aware of truck and equipment activity.

I-315 Great Falls - 10th Ave S / Fox Farm RD. Signal installation work in progress. Expect single lane traffic, single lane closures, intersection work. All traffic should avoid the intersection if possible to reduce congestion. Expect delays during peak hours. Tractor-trailer units planning to make a turn at the intersection should plan to us an alternate route.

I-90 Montana - Idaho line to the Taft Interchange. Guardrail work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures.

I-90 Taft Interchange to Ninemile Interchange. Bridge work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect delays up to 30 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures. EASTBOUND LOADS over 12 feet wide must stage at milepost 4.6. At 5 a.m. they will be piloted to milepost 13. These loads will be staged again at milepost 52. At 6:15 a.m. they will be piloted to milepost 63. Eastbound loads missing the designated piloting times will be required to wait until the next opening. Beginning May 30, 2012, eastbound oversized loads must continue on and cross the bridge at milepost 81prior to 7:00 a.m. Loads not meeting this deadline will be required to wait for the next opening.

WESTBOUND LOADS over 12 feet wide must stage at milpost 63. At 5 a.m.they will be piloted to milepost 52. These loads will be staged again at the Haugan Weigh Scale at milepost 15. At 6:15 a.m. they will be piloted to milepost 5.7. Westbound loads missing the designated piloting times will be required to wait for the next opening.

The general traveling public can expect delays during the piloting hours.

The old bridge on Old US-10 west of the Fish Creek Interchange, is scheduled to be permanently closed on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Access to the Crystal Springs area can now be done at the Crystal Springs Interchange at milepost 66.

I-90 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: 20 miles west of Missoula (Alberton area). Surveying work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic.

East of Clark Fork Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Phosphate Frontage Road. Miscellaneous work in progress. Wash out-Clark Fork.

I-90 East and West of Deer Lodge on I-90 MM 184.9 and 187. Guardrail work in progress. There is a width restriction of 14 feet. Expect detour, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers. Bridge and Median work starting date April 18, 2012. Expect median crossovers, two way traffic and a 14' wide restriction to accomodate loads over 14' wide call Mountain West Traffic Control (406) 490-8390 24 hours in advance. Wide load detour is set up at the North Deer Lodge Interchange mp 184 and the South Deer Lodge Interchange at MP 187. Detour/median crossover two way traffic in the east bound lane throughout the project.

I-90 Approximately 10 miles west of Three Forks to the Three Forks Interchange. Crack sealing work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect delays of 15 to 15 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic, single lane closures, flaggers. This project is scheduled to start on Monday, May 21, 2012 and will be in the Westbound lane. Work schedule is from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday. Width restriction is during work hours only. The estimated completion date is June 15th weather depending. Oversized loads will have to find an alternate route between the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday.

I-90 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Approximately 10 miles west of Three Forks to the Three Forks Interchange. I-90 Bozeman E & W. Bridge work in progress. Paving is complete on I-90. Preliminary bridge work has started on 19th ave and will continue next week. There may be some delays on the on and off ramps-watch for and obey construction signs.

I-90 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Bozeman City limits in Gallatin County. Chip sealing work in progress. No work until chip seal next summer.

I-90 East of Livingston. Miscellaneous work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures. Construction of Median crossovers.

MT-1 Georgetown Lake to Philipsburg. Sign installation work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, pilot cars, single lane traffic.

MT-16 18 to 25 miles NE of Glendive. Reconstruction work in progress. Expect delays up to 15 minutes, detour, loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, pilot cars, gravel surface, rough roadway surface, single lane traffic, flaggers, motorcycles consider another route. 0.5 miles of gravel surface.

MT-16 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Town of Sidney, milepost 50 to 52. Miscellaneous work in progress. Expect intersection work. Work is being done at the intersection of 4th St S and 2nd St N.

MT-16 3.5 to 5 miles North of Culbertson. Miscellaneous work in progress. Expect delays up to 15 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic, flaggers.

MT-2 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Butte - Grand Avenue to Harrison Avenue. Reconstruction work in progress. No work on project until phase two of the work next spring.

MT-2 Butte - Harrison Avenue from Amherst to Front Street. Reconstruction work in progress. Expect detour, single lane traffic. West bound I-90 / I-15 on ramp turn lane will be closed, traffic will use middle traffic lane to access the on ramp.

MT-2 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Ten miles southeast of Butte on Harding Way. Culvert installation work in progress. Expect delays of 15 to 20 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph. No work until next Spring.

MT-200 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Two miles east of Bonner. Miscellaneous work in progress.

MT-200 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Simms to the JCT with S-434. Miscellaneous work in progress. No work scheduled. Waiting for Seal Coat Warranty date of 12/7/11.

MT-200 Twelve miles east of Winnett, MT. Reconstruction work in progress. Expect delays up to 15 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic, flaggers. There is a reduced speed of 35 mph during work hours, during NON-work hours the speed limit will be 55 mph.

MT-200 This project has been completed. 17 Miles East of Jordan to 24 Miles East of Jordan. Chip sealing work in progress. Expect loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, gravel surface. Chip seal is completed, broomed, and striped but still have loose chips so 35 mph speed limit will be in affect.

MT-28 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Between Elmo and Niarada. Overlay work in progress. Expect fresh oil, reduced speed to 35 mph, grooved surface, flaggers. Milling operations are scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Paving is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 30, 2012, depending on the weather. Work is expected to continue through the middle of July, 2012.

MT-3 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Town of Judith Gap. Reconstruction work in progress.

MT-3 Concurrent with US-87/MT- 200 East of Windham. Reconstruction work in progress. There is a height restriction of 15 feet, a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect delays up to 15 minutes, reduced speed to 35 mph, pilot cars, single lane traffic, single lane closures, intersection work, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers, motorcycles consider another route. From 1 mile to 11.5 miles west of Hobson. Work includes surveying, bridge work, and miscellaneous activities. Beginning June 4, 2012 there will be a detour from Hobson (Sec-239 to Utica to (Sec- 541) to Windham. There is a twelve foot width restriction through the town on Hobson on this detour. Wider loads will need to have an alternate route.

MT-38 Skalkaho Road. Rock work in progress. Expect road closure. Beginning May 26, 2012, the road will be closed between Forest Service Road 711 and Skalkaho Falls. The road will open to traffic for fifteen minutes on the even hours. The contractor will not close the road on the weekends unless they are working. Information signs will be posted on the road.

MT-39 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Beginning 11 miles north of Colstrip proceeding 10.2 miles north. Bridge work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures.

MT-40 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: 2 miles West of Jct US2, between Conn Road and Trumble Creek Rd. Milling work in progress. Expect detour, fresh oil, loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures, flaggers. Work is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Operations will include: milling, grading, patching, and paving. The eastbound lane will be detoured to the center turn lane. Estimated completion date is July 9, 2012.

MT-41 Twin Bridges at MM 27 to 13 miles South of Twin Bridges. Guardrail work in progress. There is a width restriction of 10 feet. Expect detour, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers. Bridge and median work in progress. Wide loads over 10 feet must use I-15 detour.
Bridge location- Hwy 41, 13 miles south of Twin Bridges. Bridge location- Hwy 41 at Twin Bridges at MM 27 starting April 30, 2012.

MT-5 From 11.8 to 18 miles west of Plentywood. Reconstruction work in progress. Expect reduced speed varying from 35 to 45 mph, gravel surface, rough roadway surface.

MT-72 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: 2 to 4 miles North of Belfry. Seeding work in progress. INACTIVE UNTIL CHIP SEAL.

MT-72 From 16 miles north of Wyoming State Line to Jct with US 310. Reconstruction work in progress. There is a width restriction of 14 feet. Expect loose gravel, reduced speed to 25 mph, gravel surface, rough roadway surface. Working on irrigation pipe and mainline.

MT-78 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: North of Roscoe. Striping work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph. Watch for workers and equipment.

MT-78 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Three miles south to three miles north of Absarokee. Miscellaneous work in progress.

MT-80 North of Geraldine to Arrow Creek. Striping work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph. This project extends south into the Lewistown District by 7.4 miles to milepost 43.0.

MT-81 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Denton Sidewalks - Denton, MT. Sidewalk work in progress. No restrictions or delays, while waiting for final walk through of project.

MT-81 Sage Creek - Approximately fourteen miles east of Denton near Judith River bridge. Miscellaneous work in progress. Sage Creek flood damaged culvert repairs are in progress with signage but no affect to traveling public.

MT-81 Approximately 16 miles east of Denton to the new Warm Springs Creek Bridge. Shoulder work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures. Maintenance crews will be completing this slope flattening project as time and weather allows. Travelers should expect short delays, flaggers, and reduced speed when crews are present.

MT-81 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Twenty miles east of Denton - Seven Miles west of Brooks. Reconstruction work in progress.

MT-83 Seeley Lake South MP 5 to MP 12. Miscellaneous work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, pilot cars, single lane traffic, traffic controlled by signal lights. Drill geotechnical borings. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 30, 2012. Drilling will begin at MP 12 in the southbound lane and continue working south. This project is expected to last 4 weeks, weather depending. Traffic control and pilot car will be provided by Mountain West Holding Co. All loads over 12 feet wide will have to choose an alternate route. Work schedule will be Monday thru Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. Width restriction is in effect during work hours only. Oversized loads will be able to travel after 5:30 pm and on Fridays.

MT-83 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Seeley Lake to north of Lake Inez. Miscellaneous work in progress.

MT-84 This project has been completed. Between Norris and Four Corners. Miscellaneous work in progress. There is a width restriction of 10 feet. Expect delays up to 5 minutes, single lane closures, traffic controlled by signal lights. Installation of traffic sensors. OVERSIZED LOADS may want to choose an alternate route but can be accommodated but delay could be up to 2 hours. Work scheduled to begin on May 21st at 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Work will resume on 5/22 and 5/23 at 7:00 am and last 6 to 10 hours.

MT-85/ US-191 Starts on US-191 500 ft south of intersection with MT-85 and continues north on MT-85. Intersection work in progress. Expect loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane closures, intersection work. Flaggers, gravel surface.

S-201 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Approximately 10 to 20 miles west of Jct of MT-16. Shoulder work in progress.

S-203 Stevensville north. Chip sealing work in progress. Expect loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic. Work will begin on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.

S-205 OLD HIGHWAY 10 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Logan to 1/2 mile east of Manhattan. Chip sealing work in progress. S-205 OLD HIGHWAY 10 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: One half mile east of Logan at the JCT with I-90 East to Manhattan. S-331 Castner Street extending across Belt Creek to the Interstection of Bridge Street and Main Street. Guardrail work in progress. Expect delays of 15 to 15 minutes, reduced speed to 15 mph, flaggers.

S-347 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: West of Belgrade - Amsterdam Road Drainage Bridge. Bridge work in progress. Expect road closure. The roadway will remain closed until the completion of the project.

S-411 SPRINGHILL ROAD Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: 6 TO 10 miles north of the N 19th Ave Interchange. Chip sealing work in progress. S-426 Hanover Road 11.2 miles NW of Lewistown near the Judith River on Hanover Road. Miscellaneous work in progress. Expect detour, reduced speed to 25 mph. A road slide at mile post 15.5 has closed a short segment of this roadway. A 2.8 gravel detour is in place around the slide with a speed restriction on the detour.

S-453 This project has been completed. S-453 Lincoln Road. Paving work in progress. Work is complete except for some seeding and fence work which will not affect the travelling public.

S-472 Blue Slide Road -near Thompson Falls. Fencing work in progress. Expect reduced speed to 35 mph, single lane traffic.

S-482 Work on this project is temporarily suspended. When work resumes please expect the following: Farm to Market Road, Libby. Bridge work in progress.

S-548 West Reserve Drive from US93 east to Stillwater River Bridge. Intersection work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect detour, reduced speed to 35 mph, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers. Project involves building a new road from West Reserve Drive south and then west, connecting up with Hutton Ranch Road. Work will involve traffic revisions to West Reserve between US93 east to the Stillwater River Bridge. The North Approach to Home Depot will be CLOSED through Friday, May 11, 2012. West Reserve traffic is detoured to the south part of the road and has a 12' width restriction through the month of June, 2012. After paving is complete on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the traffic detour will be moved to the north half of the road. Expected completion is late July, 2012.

US-12 Between Checkerboard and Martinsdale on Primary 14 (US-12). Topsoil work in progress. Watch for trucks entering the roadway. May be some minor traffic delays.

US-12 Seven miles east of Junction of US 191 / US 12 in Harlowton. Reconstruction work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect delays up to 10 minutes, detour, loose gravel, reduced speed to 35 mph, pilot cars, single lane traffic, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers. This reconstruction project begins seven miles east of Harlowton, and ends half a mile west of Shawmut, MT. A width restriction of twelve feet on the detour areas. Crews will be working 24 hours a day, travelers should watch for equipment flaggers and workers in the roadway.

US-12 Concurrent with MT-3 1 mile north east of Cushman at the junction of Cushman Rd and US 12. Bridge work in progress. Expect detour, loose gravel, reduced speed to 25 mph, gravel surface. The DETOUR bridge is now OPEN. The contractor will be on site working on the NEW bridge.

US-12 This project has been completed. Roundup Rockfall Repair - Three miles west of Roundup, MT on US 12. Miscellaneous work in progress. Maintenance Crews will finish the plant mix resurfacing at a later date.

US-12 Project begins approximately 13 miles east of Melstone, for 10 miles. Overlay work in progress. There is a width restriction of 11 feet. US-191 Big Sky North. Bridge work in progress. There is a width restriction of 10 feet. Expect reduced speed to 25 mph, pilot cars, single lane traffic, single lane closures, traffic controlled by signal lights. Grooved surfaces with uneven lanes, sign installation,milling and paving. Width restriction will end Thursday, May 24th, 2012. 24 Hour/day width restrictions on loads over 10' wide. Milling and paving will not continue until Tuesday, May 29th, 2012.. Work will be in progress from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday. Travelers could possibly see occasional work in progress on Saturdays if needed.NO WORK WILL BE IN PROGRESS FRIDAY, MAY 25TH THROUGH MONDAY, MAY 28TH. There will be no traffic control during this time but travelers should expect reduced speeds. No overweight loads are allowed until repairs are finished. Expect uneven spots in pavement due to slide movement, a width restriction of twelve feet throughout this project. NO overweight loads allowed on this route until project is complete.

US-2 West Idaho Street WEST IDAHO STREET (Downtown Kalispell) from Meridian to 1st Avenue West North. Paving work in progress. There is a width restriction of 12 feet. Expect detour, loose gravel, intersection work, traffic controlled by signal lights, flaggers. The South side of the highway is closed. Traffic is detoured to the North half of the highway and reduced to one lane each direction. NO LEFT TURNS are allowed in the work zone. Concrete paving continues. Expect flaggers stopping traffic for concrete trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone. Project will include: Milling, Pulverizing, Grading, Shoulder work, Culvert installation, Intersection work, Sign installation, Paving, Landscaping, and Seeding. Estimated completion date is June 25, 2012. Expect intermittent side road closures on the South side of the highway.
