The Montana Department of Transportation is not responsible for the issuing or controlling of Montana driver licenses, in-state vehicle license plates, or in-state vehicle registration.

The Montana Department of Justice handles all information related to driver licenses and in-state vehicle registration. Please see the Driving in Montana on the Department of Justice website for further information.

The Montana Department of Transportation does handle interstate licensing/registration. Contact the MDT Motor Carrier Services Division for interstate licensing/registration questions.
