Clearing of the Beartooth Highway (Hwy 212) is now underway. The road, which closes each winter because of excessive snow and adverse winter conditions, typically opens by the Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

Before opening the pass this spring, 11.4 miles of roadway needs to be cleared (M.P. 45.0 to 56.4). Crews begin working approximately six weeks before the Memorial Day weekend opening and progress is weather dependent.

In most places the snow is at the level of the guardrail; however there are some drifts up to 20 feet high. On the road to Upper Quad creek there are approximately 26" of snow on the road.

Please check the road condition report for the most updated conditions and watch this site for updates and pictures on the plowing progress.
