Traffic Enforcement Programs - STEP & DUI TeamSelective Traffic Enforcement Program
Working together, our goal is to enhance public safety by preventing crashes and saving lives on Montana's roads. Montana is investing $760,249 during FFY 2012 for STEP patrols, in partnership with 52 law enforcement agencies across the state.
STEP Participants DUI TeamMDT funds the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) to provide a DUI Team, also known as Roving Patrol. The purpose of the extra patrols is to improve public safety by deterring and detecting impaired driving, speeding, and a host of other traffic safety offenses, as well as provide education to the motoring public. The DUI Team moves around the state to known high-crash corridors, based on data and events known to be associated with alcohol consumption. Special attention by law enforcement is believed to be one of the contributing factors to achievement of the Montana Comprehensive Highway Safety Plan goal to reduce fatalities and incapacitating injuries in high crash locations.
