Statewide Traffic Count Site Map
Please note: If you are working on or contracted to do an MDT project, do not use traffic data from this map. Please continue sending your formal traffic data requests through the of MDT.
Short Term Count Sites 
ATR Sites
Click on the Count Site to display the information for the site. The following information is provided for each site:
- Description: description of the count site location
- Site ID: Unique ID used to identify count sites (ex: 25-7C-86)Reference the Site ID when requesting additional traffic information for a count site.
- Departmental Route: MDT route naming convention (ex: N-5)
- Corridor Route: MDT route naming convention (ex: C000005)
- Owner: Agency responsible for conducting the traffic count
- County: County in which the count site is located
- ATR: ID for the Automatic Traffic Recorder (ex: A-3). ATRs collect traffic data year round from sensors imbedded in the roadway. If this field is null the site is a short-term count site.
- AADT:Annual Average Daily Traffic. The (A) and (E) following the AADT indicates if the count is based on Actual counts conducted that year or if the count has been Estimated based on historical traffic count data.
The map displays three years of traffic data. New traffic data will be loaded to the site each year – usually in early June.
The zoom scale on the left side of the map allows you to zoom in and out on the map. As you zoom in, count sites close in proximity, such as in cities and urban areas can be seen in greater detail.
There are places where MDT's count site locations and/or descriptions might not line up exactly with Google Map's road network. Changing the selection from the Map to Satellite (upper right hand corner of the map) provides an aerial view of the area which might provide a better alignment.
Additional traffic requests or comments can be or by calling 406/444-6374. Please make note of the Site ID (ex: 25-2-25) when requesting additional traffic information for a specific count site.
