November 20, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lori Ryan, Public Information Officer, (406) 444-6821, email: lryan@mt.gov MDT announces a temporary closure to the public for the Kindsfater Wetland Project Area - Yellowstone County Billings - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is notifying the public of upcoming construction activities that will result in a temporary closure to the public of the Kindsfater Wetland site located about 3 miles east of the town of Laurel, Yellowstone County. The project will occur entirely within the MDT – owned property located at the southeast corner of 72nd and Laurel Airport. The site will be posted and temporarily closed to all public access beginning approximately Monday, November 19th, 2012 to allow for contractor surveying and staking activities prior to construction. The project is tentatively scheduled for construction on and/or about November 26th, 2012. MDT anticipates the closure will last through June 1st, 2013. The Kindsfater Wetland mitigation project involves the restoration and enhancement of existing wetlands and the creation of additional wetlands within this MDT-owned property. Restoration activities at this location will enhance the area for wildlife habitat, and provide MDT with wetland credits that would be utilized to mitigate wetlands impacts associated with future transportation projects in the Billings/Laurel area. The work includes the following: • the excavation of wetland cells, • removal of excavated materials from the site, construction of safety berms, • the installation of chain-link fencing around the Montana Highway Patrol shooting range, • and the re-vegetation of the site.
