Montana Department of
Transportation Proposes Aquatic Mitigation Within Richardson Family
Ranch Property

HUSON — The Montana Department of Transportation
(MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal
to restore a section of Six Mile Creek and to construct wetlands and
associated vegetative habitat within the MDT-owned Richardson Family
Ranch property near the Huson Interchange in Missoula County.

proposed project is approximately one mile west of the Huson
Interchange north of the Interstate 90 corridor within Section 26 of
Township 15 North, Range 22 West. All restoration work will occur
within the boundaries of the property.

Proposed work includes
reconstructing approximately 1,200 feet of Six Mile Creek, creating
approximately 11 acres of new wetlands, eliminating a barrier to fish
passage in the creek, replacing fence along the property boundaries
with wildlife-friendly fences, and re-seeding and planting new native
trees, shrubs and plants.

The purpose of the project is to provide
MDT with aquatic resource mitigation credits through proposed stream
and wetland restoration efforts within the site that can be used to
offset aquatic resource impacts associated with future transportation
projects within the watershed of the Lower Clark Fork River basin of
MDT’s Missoula District.

For more information, please contact
Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at (406) 523-5802 or the
Project’s Aquatic Mitigation Engineer Shawn Bryant at (406) 444 7273.
