of Transportation Proposes Safety Enhancement Project on Interstate
and Roadway Sections in Lewis and Clark County
HELENA — The Montana
Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public
and seek comments on a proposal to complete safety improvements at
six locations around Helena in Lewis and Clark County.
(Interstate 15 near Wolf Creek): Install concrete barrier rail
delineation on outside of curve of north-bound lanes and guardrail
delineation on inside of curve of south-bound lanes from reference
post (RP) 228.2 to RP 228.8.
Site 2: (Boulder Avenue in Helena):
Curve warning signs and panel delineation on three curves from RP 1.0
to RP 1.4.
Site 3: (Montana Avenue in Helena): Install standard
delineation from Sierra Road at RP 4.3 to Lincoln Road at RP 7.4.
Site 4: (Wylie Drive in East Helena): Install shoulder rumble strips
and upgrade curve signs from RP 2.6 to RP 3.2. Install advanced
intersection signing for both trailer park entrances. Replace
existing object markers for canal bridge at RP 2.0.
Site 5: (Birdseye
Road west of Helena): Install curve signing, panel delineation, and
centerline rumble strips from RP 7.7 to RP 8.7.
Site 6: (Grizzly
Gulch Road south of Helena): Install curve warning signs and panel
delineation on curves from RP 3.5 to RP 4.0. Install guardrail on
outside of curve from RP 3.9 to RP 4.0.
The purpose of the projects
is to address road departure crashes.
The project is tentatively
scheduled for construction in 2019, depending on completion of all
project development activities and availability of funding. No new
right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
