of Transportation Proposes a Feasibility Study Project on U.S.
Highway 2 between Columbia Heights and Hungry Horse
HUNGRY HORSE —
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify
the public and seek comments on a proposal to evaluate roadway
improvement options on U.S. Highway 2 (U.S. 2), between Columbia
Heights and Hungry Horse in Flathead County.
The project begins
approximately 1.3 miles northeast of the junction with Secondary
Highway 206 at reference post 139.8 and extends easterly for 1.7
miles through Bad Rock Canyon, ending 0.8 miles southwest of Hungry
Horse at reference post 141.5.
Proposed work includes soil and land
surveys as well as preliminary roadway design to generally determine
feasible alignment and grade alternatives, and costs and impacts
associated with each alternative. Additional project information may
be gathered as necessary to determine the feasibility of options.
The purpose of the project is to build upon previous planning-level
efforts completed for this section of roadway and begin detailed
design efforts to determine the feasibility and costs of various
alignment options. The feasibility of the alignment options will be
presented for comment to the project stakeholders prior to proceeding
into final design.
MDT staff will contact all potentially affected
landowners prior to performing survey work on their land.
