Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Reconstruction Project for Secondary
Highway 279 (Lincoln Road)

HELENA The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek
comments on a proposal to realign and widen about 6.5 miles of
Secondary Highway 279 (locally known as Lincoln Road) northwest of
Helena in Lewis and Clark County.

The project begins west of the
roundabout at Lincoln Road and Green Meadow Road at reference post
2.2 and extends northwest for 6.5 miles, ending near the Birdseye
Road intersection at reference post 8.7.

Proposed work includes
realigning horizontal curves, widening the roadway top, flattening
ditch slopes, and widening ditches. The purpose of the project is to
reconstruct the roadway to accommodate future traffic and improve
roadway safety.

The project is tentatively scheduled for
construction in 2022, depending on completion of all project
development activities and availability of funding.

Right-of-way and
utility relocations will be required. MDT staff will contact
potentially affected landowners prior to construction regarding
property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
