Browning And Ft Benton - Safety Projects Proposed

Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Safety Projects in Glacier and Choteau
Counties

BROWNING and FORT BENTON — The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek
comments on a proposal to provide safety improvements for the
following locations:

Site 1: U.S. Highway 89 between reference post
(RP) 105.00 and RP 110.00 east of Browning on the Blackfeet Indian
Reservation. 

Site 2: U.S. Highway 87 between RP 45.60 and RP 46.20
north of Fort Benton. This location is on a bridge over abandoned
rail road.

Proposed work includes installing a single flasher
controlled by a wind-speed detector at Site 1 and installing “icy
bridge” warning signs with an activated flasher using a bridge deck
temperature sensor at Site 2. The purpose of the project is to
enhance roadway safety for the traveling public.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2018 depending on completion of design and
availability of funds
