Montana Department
of Transportation Proposes Construction of Multi-Use Path Near Heart
Butte

HEART BUTTE The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to
design and build Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant
multi-use path approximately 0.3 miles in length just north of the
Heart Butte Schools and south of Heart Butte on the Blackfeet
Reservation. The project begins north of the Heart Butte Schools on
Mowitch Basin Road and proceeds north to Heart Butte Road (BIA Route
1).

Proposed work includes ADA-compliant multi-use path between the
Heart Butte Schools and Heart Butte Road. The purpose of the project
is to provide a non-motorized direct route between the Heart Butte
schools and the community of Heart Butte.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2019 depending on completion of design and
availability of funds. New right-of-way will be required. MDT staff
will contact all potentially affected landowners prior to performing
survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior
to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary
construction permits.
