Transportation Schedules Open House to Discuss Project to Reconstruct
Zimmerman Trail

BILLINGS ó The Montana Department of Transportation
(MDT) is conducting an open house to inform the public and seek
comments on a proposal to reconstruct Zimmerman Trail and the
intersection with Montana Highway 3 (MT-3).

The open house meeting
will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, at Lillis Chapel (lower
level) on the Campus of St. Johnís Lutheran Ministries (2429 Mission
Way). The meeting will begin with a brief presentation at 6 p.m. and
be followed by a Q&A session in which the public is invited to ask
questions and provide comments on the project. Project staff will be
available during the open house after the presentation to further
answer questions and review the proposed project.

The project
begins at the intersection of Rimrock Road and extends north for
approximately one mile to the intersection of MT-3.

Proposed work
includes widening of the roadway to two 12-foot lanes and 4-foot
shoulders where feasible, upgraded pavement marking, and installation
of improved signage and guardrail along Zimmerman Trail. The proposed
work also includes improving intersection safety with construction of
a roundabout at the intersection of Zimmerman Trail and MT-3. The
purpose of the project is to improve safety and mobility of the
roadway and extend the service life of Zimmerman Trail from Rimrock
Road to MT-3.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2018 depending
on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way
and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact
potentially affected landowners prior to construction regarding
property acquisition and temporary construction permits, as
necessary. Construction will require the closure of Zimmerman Trail.
