MDT proposes a slide repair project for the Skalkaho Highway –
Hamilton - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is seeking
comments on a proposal to repair a slide on MT 38 (Skalkaho Highway)
in Ravalli County. The 0.7-mile long project is about 18.6 miles
northeast of the junction with Highway 93 near Hamilton (reference
post 18.6), and is about 2.7 miles southwest of Skalkaho Falls. The
project is entirely within the Bitterroot National Forest.
The purpose of the project is to repair the slide so that the road
can be re-opened to allow two lanes of travel on a roadbed less
susceptible to future slide damage. The work will include grading,
underdrains, new cross drains, and gravel surfacing. The project
will require a temporary special-use permit from the Bitterroot
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in July 2014,
