Proposed Intersection Improvements In Columbus

Columbus, MT - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would
like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to
add a traffic signal, new railroad lights and gates at the
intersection of Pike Avenue and Pratten Street in Columbus.

Proposed
work includes the installation of a new traffic signal and a new
railroad grade crossing signal connected to the signal. At Pratten
Street the north and south tracks will be removed and at 3rd Street
the south track will be removed. The purpose of the project is to
improve the safety of the Pratten Street rail crossing and improve
the operation of the intersection of Pratten Street and Pike Avenue.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2023 depending on
completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and
relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all
affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff
will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding
property acquisition and temporary construction permits.

An
important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering
with the community. The Montana Department of Transportation welcomes
the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project.
