Proposed Resurfacing On Secondary Highway 278 In Jackson

Jackson, Montana - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal
to resurface about 16 miles of Highway Secondary 278. The project
begins approximately 2 miles west of Bull Creek Rd and extends
northwesterly through Jackson ending just south of Big Lake Road.

Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying a new
overlay, and finishing with a chip seal. Additional work includes
upgraded pavement marking and signage and guardrail installation.
Some minor curb and gutter repair will occur in the town of Jackson
as well as some minor bridge deck work. The purpose of the project is
to address ride quality and extend the life of the pavement.

project is tentatively scheduled for construction in the summer of
2022, depending on completion of all project development activities
and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility
relocations will be needed.

An important part of properly planning
for future projects is partnering with the community. The Montana
Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and
comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at or in writing to Montana
Department of Transportation, Butte office at PO Box 3068, Butte, MT
59702-3068. Please note that comments are for project UPN 9870000.
