Night Construction Resumes In Downtown Kalispell

KALISPELL, Montana - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
announced today that nighttime construction for the Kalispell
Concrete Rehab project will resume on April 12, 2021. Crews will
return to the project area to complete light electrical work, which
should last for about two weeks.

"While work will happen mostly in
the evening, wed like to remind travelers that this this is an
active construction zone 24-hours a day," explained MDT Missoula
District Construction Engineer, John Schmidt. "Please exercise
caution while driving near ongoing construction downtown and be alert
for road workers and traffic pattern changes."

The main task being
completed now is the installation of radar detective systems. This
technology will be placed at the intersections within the project
limits and will monitor volume and speed of traffic. A majority of
the work will occur Monday through Friday during nighttime hours,
from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Drivers can expect single-lane closures,
directional signage, signals, and lowered speed limits in the area
during this time. Later in the spring, crews will return to the
project area to install road signage and pavement markings.

Residents and businesses can expect minor noise during nighttime
construction, and all travelers should prepare for delays of up to 15
minutes. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to utilize sidewalks
or use an alternative route.

During the summer of 2020, crews
completed 1.6 miles of concrete preservation work on Main Street
between 6th Street and Washington Street, and on Idaho Street between
Meridian Road and 7th Avenue EN. During that time, crews ground down
the existing pavement, sealed roadway joints and cracks, and repaired
the concrete where necessary. This work was essential to preserving
and maintaining a functioning roadway for years to come. Crews will
now return to wrap up final detail work and address any outstanding
items not completed last construction season.

MDT recognizes that
construction impacts those who travel in the area. Weekly email and
text updates on this project are available to those who would like
