Construction Resumes On The Lohman E/W Project

Chinook, MT - It is that time of year again! MDT and Schellinger
Construction are back out on the Lohman E/W project, upgrading your
route. Miscellaneous work to finish construction on US 2 between
Havre and Chinook will resume this week. Crews are starting with
topsoil and shoulder work west of Chinook.

Topsoil and shoulder
work will continue beginning Wednesday, March 24, throughout the
project. Trucks will be hauling topsoil to work zones along the
project, minimally impacting traffic flow. MDT will establish work
zones with signal lights and flaggers to accommodate truck movement
and through traffic. The traveling public should expect reduced
speeds of 35 mph where crews are present.

"The Lohman East and West
project on US 2 is reconstruction project designed to improve a
critical stretch of hi-line roadway infrastructure. We have
completely reconstructed over ten miles of US 2 and rebuilt four
bridges," Great Falls District Administrator Jim Wingerter said.

said the project now provides passing lanes, turning lanes, new
bridges, wider shoulders, and flatter roadway side slopes.

"It will
provide a modern, safe, and efficient highway that meets traffic
needs," Wingerter said. Visit the project website to learn more:

When traveling during
construction season, watch for the "cone zone" and workers on the
highway. These workers spend their days working a short distance from
fast-moving vehicles. While they make every effort to work safely,
they count on you to pay attention, slow down and be careful as you
pass through a work zone.

Remember the Three S's of work zone
safety: speed, space, and stress. Learn more about MDT's work zone
safety initiatives here:
