Proposed Safety Improvements on State Secondary Route 421

COLUMBUS &
JOLIET, MONTANA (September 27, 2019) The Montana Department of
Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and seek public comment
on a proposal to widen about 1.1 miles and provide safety
improvements on an additional mile of State Secondary Route 421. The
project is located approximately 6 miles southeast of Columbus in
Stillwater County; beginning at reference post 4.8 and extending
southeast for 2.1 miles ending near Tutt Creek at reference post 6.9.

Proposed work includes shoulder widening, shoulder delineation,
rumble strips, and guardrail work. The purpose of the project is to
improve roadway safety for the traveling public.

Construction is
tentatively planned for 2022 depending on completion of design and
availability of funds.	New right-of-way and relocation of utilities
may be required. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners
