The Dern/Springcreek intersection is of high concern to the community and to the Montana Department of Transportation. We have heard your frustrations and please know -- we do care and we are listening. We are making new efforts to share information about the Dern/Springcreek intersection improvement project and are collecting further comment from those with concerns and questions. Our goal is to share and expand upon the research that led us to this point so folks can better understand why we’re looking at a roundabout and which other options were studied. We’ve heard many great, valid questions around this project and are committed to opening up a larger community dialogue to answer those questions.
We want to be transparent that at this time, the Montana Department of Transportation is still moving forward with the roundabout design. However, if there’s something we’ve missed, we want to know about it. During this phase, we’ll also be starting to show actual design concepts for the roundabout and we welcome the public to give feedback on the design as well as on the overarching project.
In addition, the Montana Department of Transportation will be working with groups specifically impacted by this project such as local truckers, landowners, and Montana Department of Transportation’s winter maintenance teams to find ways to address concerns with the developing design. We’ll be talking with them early and often to identify potential challenges and opportunities and to deliver a design that works for all users.
