MDT Bridge Load Rating
AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR)
MDT Current Version
AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) software is available to consultants at a discounted rate for use on Montana structures. All AASHTOWare licenses are valid July 1st through June 30th of the following year. Licenses are required to be renewed each year prior to July 1st.
Special Consultant licenses can be ordered through AASHTOWare. Prior to ordering, please notify MDT by emailing the the following information:
- Consultant Name
- Primary user(s)
- Number of licenses
BrR software licensing will typically be an indirect cost, unless its intended use meets a set of very specific criteria. Consultants are encouraged to work with their contract manager during the scoping phase of the project if they have questions on license reimbursement.
MDT Preferences/User Guide
This document is in development and will be posted once it's complete. In the meantime, refer to the MDT Bridge Inspection and Rating Manual, Additional Load Rating Guidance, Load Rating Requirements for Bridge Design Contracts, BrR Templates for details on specific MDT preferences.
Technical support information can be found on AASHTOWare's website.
For Special Consultant Licenses, the primary technical support channel is through MDT. Please contact for help with resolving any issues or to report any bugs. Consultants with Unlimited Licenses will have their own account, and should work through their organization contact for any technical issues.
The AASHTOWare BrDR Support Center uses a web-based software called JIRA for tracking issues and bugs. Although reporting needs to go through a specific contact, read-only access is available for viewing all issues. For more information about JIRA, see the BrDR User Group home page.

- Username/Password (read-only): contact
Load raters are responsible for reviewing all applicable JIRA tickets to ensure reported issues do not affect a given BrR model. If a JIRA ticket does affect the BrR model and a workaround is available, the following should be documented in the load rating report:
- Reference ID
- Brief statement of problem and how the model was affected
- Workaround procedure performed
