Large Vehicle & Bus Crashes

In Montana, large vehicles and buses are involved in approximately 11 percent of all crashes but 11 to 16 percent of all fatal crashes. In 2010, the number of large vehicle/bus crashes and fatal large vehicle/bus crashes decreased again. This is the third consecutive year Montana has seen a decrease in fatality crashes involving this class of motor vehicles.

Comprehensive Highway Safety Plan
New strategies to address large vehicle and bus crashes include increased enforcement and inspection and an expanded safety training program.

Targets

  • Reduce the five-year average number of fatal and incapacitating injuries resulting from large vehicles and bus crashes from 155 in 2010 to 120 by 2015.
