A smiling Dominic Stevens
Nic Stevens
Meet Dominic 'Nic' Stevens, Section Supervisor, Crow Tribe member and family man. Dominic was born in Crow Agency, Montana. His interesting history includes membership in the Crow Tribe and life on the Stevens Family cattle ranch located just outside of Lodge Grass.

After graduating Lodge Grass High School, Dominic enrolled at Sheridan College where he met and married college sweetheart, Neng-Feng. "We have three children; twin girls and a boy." When Dominic isn’t working, you’ll find him camping with his family, rawhide braiding, or horse training.

Dominic started working for MDT in 2000. In seven short years, he went from a temporary employee to section supervisor. "I started working in Lodge Grass as a winter temporary, a job I knew would be both rewarding and interesting." A year later, he landed a job as Maintenance Tech and by February 2007 he was selected to become Section Supervisor in Lodge Grass.

As Section Supervisor, Dominic schedules roadway maintenance in the Lodge Grass section. According to Dominic, the job is varied, interesting and challenging. He reports, "A typical day involves identifying and fixing roadway safety issues." But, there’s more to do than just coordinating road maintenance work. Safety is a major concern. MDT relies on Dominic to find the safest solution for both crew and traveling public.

When we asked Dominic what skill is the most important for someone in his position, he replied without hesitating, "communication." He explained, "The ability to communicate well with maintenance crews, supervisors and the public establishes an open and healthy work environment which is vital to road maintenance in any section."

So what does Dominic like best about the job he does daily? "Serving the community I was raised in, and serving the public that travel our roads." He also appreciates the people he works with: "I work with a great group of guys and people in the division, from the staff in the Billings office to other section supervisors and crews." The variety of work he is engaged in is also a plus. "You never do the same thing day to day the projects change with the seasons, from plowing and sanding, to mowing and every thing in between."
