Custer Avenue is closed from Sanders Street to Washington Street. The project is currently three months ahead of schedule, with an original project completion date of mid-September. Construction is on schedule to open Custer Avenue and ramps to traffic by June 1st, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Detour: - The primary detour route during the closure of the Custer Avenue Bridge is Washington Street to Cedar Street and Cedar Street to Montana Avenue. Travelers should check radio and project website for updated traffic information.

Construction is focused in three areas:
- I-15 milepost 194 near the Custer Overpass
- Montana Avenue to Sanders Street
- New Frontage Road
- North Montana Avenue
- York Road to Custer Overpass
Near Custer Overpass:
Lane crossovers and two way traffic will be active on I-15. Travelers should expect a width restriction of 14 feet and reduced speeds.
Crews will be prepping the ramps on the northbound lanes this week. Paving of the ramps is scheduled for the week of May 14th.
Montana Avenue to Sanders Street:
Montana Avenue to Sanders Street will be a major focus for crews as they upgrade utilities for the next two weeks. Curb work and blading in preparation for paving are in progress. Paving is scheduled for late this week. Watch for narrowed lanes, temporary traffic signals, flaggers and heavy truck traffic in this area. Sanders Street is an additional option to reach the businesses on Custer Avenue. Signs indicate alternate routes when necessary.
Frontage Road/North Montana Ave/York Road to Custer Overpass
Dayshift crews are currently hauling fill on the Frontage Road, North Montana Avenue from Lincoln Road to Custer Avenue, and along Custer Avenue from York Road to the Overpass. Temporary traffic lights are in place; watch for flaggers and expect minor delays.
For the safety of drivers and our crews, we ask drivers to use extreme caution traveling in or around the work areas. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project and access to Custer Avenue businesses will be maintained. There may be times when direct access to businesses will not be possible, and signs will indicate alternative routes.
Motorists are reminded to watch for signs indicating reduced speed limits. Posted limits are enforced until signs indicate that the work zone has ended. Fines double in work zones.
